From a new life in spain, to an old life in britain, 'roaming brit' documents uncertain times!

Picture

On 31st January 2016, my partner and I left Southampton to start a new life as Expats in Gran Alacant, on the Costa Blanca. This blog will document our journey, as we navigate the Spanish system, travelling a path untried and untested. With Brexit looming, political turmoil in Europe and an unpredictable future, harsh decisions have to be made. Illness, family bonds and a Change of heart all make for challenging times in a life of a 'Roaming Brit!'

Darts Practice at zest

Picture
Somehow, I have been roped into playing darts for Zest, for this years Gran Alacant Darts League; how the hell did that happen?  Actually, I know exactly when it happened; I was drunk at Zest one night, said I was a pro and the rest is history! Still, it will get me out every Monday evening and I may actually learn something. To be honest I have never played darts in my life; after darts practice last night, I can see why!

Considering I've never played the game in my life, I personally don't think I did too badly.  My highest score was 86; no idea if that was good or not, but I was quite happy with it anyway.

Our first game, against Shooters, is at home, on Wednesday.  The game starts at 9pm; which seemed rather late, although with the siesta and working hours as they are here, It is understandable why!

I managed to get some darts before practice yesterday.  It is extremely difficult to get hold of them in Spain.  There is one place in Santa Pola, but they cost about 50€ a set.  The set I have is apparently a good one, although I wouldn't actually know myself.  I also have someone looking out for a professional dart board, so I can put it up on the solarium for practice.  Going down the pub every night is just going to make me fatter and poorer, being able to practice at home, will be a bonus!

So there we have it, part of a darts team, first match on Wednesday and then every monday thereafter.  Zest is in Division too, so not as professional as the first, which is all good for me.  Just a bit of sporting fun, and one sport I actually have the figure for!

    A place to call home
Finally, a place we can call home.  A community of like minded individuals, who used to call Britain home.  Now Spain is our choice, an altogether gentler, happier, sunnier and safer experience!
