First shop completed without my husband.  Spent 36€ at Lidl, even less than I usually do.  I have become an expert shopper and am damn proud of it!

    Zest

Popped to Zest with Andy on Saturday .  Had way too many to drink and ended up falling asleep when I got in, about three O'clock in the afternoon.

    Spanish Ways

It was a bit difficult to sleep on Saturday night.  I must have had about two hours in total. Yes it was hot, the fan was too loud and the cats were being a pain, but it is also fiesta time in this region of Spain.

Despite the fact that unemployment remains high, wages are low and Spain remains in a recession, the local Comunidad thinks it is appropriate to blast thousands of €uros into the ether every night, celebrating this or that, actually I am not quite sure what they are celebrating.  In fact even if you ask the Spanish, they also are unaware most of the time!
Anyway, I spent the evening writing on the balcony, listening to fireworks, as there was absolutely no point in going to sleep.  Don't get me wrong, it's all very lovely and colourful, but the Comunidad, should really get its priorities right. Rant over!

    Plants

It's Sunday, and I've just got back, from collecting some new plants from a friend in Gran Alacant.  I got a large cactus for the front door, and a yukka tree for the balcony.  They look great.  Plants really do make a difference!

Andy helped me pick up the plants this morning, carrying this huge lethal pair from the solarium at the top, down two flights of stairs to our rather small Opal Corsa.  With all the other plants, that I was given as well, which I gave to Katie and Andy, since I really only wanted a couple, nothing like the rain forest, I used to have at Gay Capri; more understated and classy, well, less is more as they say.  We managed to get them all back in one piece at least, where Jamie helped me lift the yukka to the balcony!

It's been extremely hot today, so after siesta, I just finished off the balcony, so I can sit outside in the evening, without having to go to the solarium, all the way at the top of the house.  It doesn't look too bad, using what I had, just to make it feel a little more homely!
The cats have been finding it hot this weekend as well, especially Lily.  I think it's probably because we had a couple of cloudy days, which cooled things down a bit.  The trouble is, now, the heat has come back with a vengeance.

Tonight I am popping out with Katie and Andy, to Dream Corner, for Andy's Birthday!

    Andy's Birthday

Sunday night, I went out with Katie and Andy for Andy's Birthday.  Katie bought everyone a meal at Dream Corner,  Afterwards we went to Zest for drinks.   Saw a few familiar faces, which is always great when you go there.  I have to say I got drunk, very drunk, mainly on Tequila, which I hate with a passion.  It was a good night celebrating Andy's 27th.  This morning I felt terrible, very hung over.  Time for detox!

After a lovely afternoon at Linda's, I am now settled at home for this evening.  I have to look after two poorly cats, both on antibiotics.  I have been blogging on the balcony this evening.  The views really are to die for. Despite Darrell being 14000 miles away in Australia, I am still very settled here in Gran Alacant. I do love my home, the people, the views and of course Spain.

    Lunch with Linda!

A big thank you to lovely Linda for a wonderful lunch this afternoon, at Casa Linda.  The food was marvellous; Mussels, figs with cold meat (I have forgotten the name of) and raspberry balsamic vinegar, Spanish Tortilla, roasted peppers, parma ham and peaches, olives, crisp fresh salad, and much much more,  I am well and truly stuffed and spoiled. Not to mention the copious amounts of red wine, sat in the hot sun, with good conversation, as always.  Days like today, makes one happy to be alive.  Thanks Linda!

One of Darrell's best friends Beth.  I stayed with her, when I lived in Australia in 1995. She is a great person, with a heart of gold, a bit different to those we met in recent times.  I have to say, finally in our life, we are both meeting some true and wonderful friends.  Many of these people are helping me out while Darrell is away and I can't thank them all enough!

    Perth

Here are a few photographs from Perth. Darrell has been there a few days now, and has caught up with family and friends.  He has been filling in all the necessary forms and applying for jobs.  He seems happy enough, although we are both missing each other.

Perth does seem to have changed quite a lot, since the last time I was there.  It certainly looks bigger and busier.  It didn't like the place when I was there, initially.   At my time of life, eventually, I would be quite happy to settle there.  At the moment, home for me is here, and I intend to become a part of Spanish life, in every respect.  I am loving living in Gran Alacant and this will be home for the foreseeable future.
