When ones partner is away, working or as in my case, caring for his Mother, family and friends are invaluable. Katie is lucky enough to have two great parents, who spend time with her, in Gran Alacant, as often as they can. Like most people, they had reservations, about their daughter, moving to a foreign country. It is natural to feel loss, in these circumstances. Pete and Carol are two people, I have had the pleasure of meeting on several occasions and whose company I appreciate; welcoming and generous, I enjoyed my evening with them, last night. I have been surprised at the community spirit that exists in GA. It is an unusual concept for me; rather like steeping back in time, to an altogether better era. The Expat's that have made this place, their home, are a wonderful advert for 'Brits Abroad;' now that's something to relish. When faced with periods of loneliness and isolation, as can often be the case here, others do take on the role of family, when ones parents are hundreds of miles away. Pete and Carol are very similar in nature to those I have met, whilst living in Spain. Very different people, to those I have known in the past, but a much welcomed change. The fact they are now comfortable with their daughter, husband and granddaughter living abroad, is testimony to the relationship they have with their family. These are the times, when support is necessary; Katie has all the love, reassurance and encouragement she needs. That's what parents are for!
