Photographs of Hope - Luke Martin-Jones!
Inspirational photographs at a time of crisis, creating positivity for the future!
This recent photograph of Her Majesty The Queen, taken in Piccadilly Circus is my photograph of hope. I have always had affection, respect and admiration for Queen Elizabeth, believing strongly in the work she does as our Head of State. The Coronavirus pandemic is a crisis like no other, never seen in my lifetime and a situation that every person is finding difficult to comprehend. As I look at the photograph above, I am reminded of a lady who has lived through many life changing events - The Second World War, the first man on the Moon, 09/11 and now this, just four occasions when we learnt just how fragile life on Earth really is. Humans have made many advances, even during my short life, but we are also vulnerable to threats that can cause profound changes in the way we live our lives.
The Queen has been a constant in my life, someone who has always been there and her words of wisdom have always resonated with my sense of belonging. It has been two weeks since Her Majesty spoke to the nation, capturing the public mood and expressing her gratitude to everyone who is helping us get through these terrible, dark days. Once again The Queen spoke for all of us, as she looked forward to a time, when we will see each other again and drew on her own experiences to share a deeply personal statement, giving everyone hope for the future.
Queen Elizabeth is the glue that holds all of us together as a country, her words captivate the public in a way no others could. Her sense of duty, longevity, dignity and determination in the face of this deadly virus, that has the potential to Wreak havoc on all our lives, is a benchmark for every man, woman and child to live up to. I was absorbed in her words and inspired by her leadership, lifting me from a low point, even if it was for just a short moment.
As I, along with you, muddle through these tenebrous weeks and months, I am grateful for the guidance and direction from a Monarch who has lived 94 years. Without her contribution to public life this country would be poorer and life would be harder. The Queen may well be just a figurehead to some, but she is also the Mother of the nation and the bond that illuminates the way towards better more congenial times!
