i've moved 23 times in my life; one day i will actually settle down!

Next weekend will be the 24th time I've moved since leaving home in 1992. Despite what you might think, I hate the process of moving and just wish to stay in one place long enough, to finally settle down. Unlike most people I don't have the security of owning my own home, having jumped off the property ladder in the UK in 2006.

When I look back at that decision, to sell the houses I owned, I am well aware  I made a mistake. It was stupid  selling assets, a regret I will always have. Getting back on the property ladder now, at my age, living in Spain is a difficult, but not impossible task. I don't particularly want to rent for the rest of my life, equally I want to freedom to move when I choose.  My mind is split right down the middle, as usual, wanting to follow different directions; never knowing which path to take!

Despite my drifter mentality, I have always had more baggage and possessions than I could ever need in a lifetime, in complete contrast to my lifestyle. Today I am still left with far too much stuff, the remainder of what I had in the UK; items I am not prepared to part with just yet.

The nature of my relationship with Darrell, has always meant that I have to carry around, a lot of documentation, on top of my goods and chattels. I have two filing cabinets full of paperwork, needed to prove our connection together. To demonstrate our association since 1995, we have to keep everything, from receipts, bank statements and utility bills, in order to remain together in the eyes of the law. Eventually when we settle in one country or another, we will have to produce these files once again, as we have to from time to time. It's difficult when you have a relationship with a citizen of another country, but I wouldn't have it any other way!

With one week to go before we move, we are nearly packed and ready, surrounded by boxes; not unusual for us in the grand scale of things, just another moving day, another new chapter and another new house to call home!
