Welcome Home!
Darrell has finally arrived back in the UK, before flying to Australia to care for his Mother in a months time. The flight from Alicante was the worst he had ever experienced apparently. He had paid a premium to fly into Southampton, just a few miles from where I am staying in Portsmouth. Typically things didn't quite work out the way they should and the flight was delayed, initially by just over three hours, which quickly escalated to a staggering eight hours, after the Flybe plane was redirected to Birmingham Airport. Instead of arriving at 9pm on Monday evening, he arrived at six o clock in the morning on Tuesday, after a long coach journey from Birmingham International Airport. I finally saw him at 9am, due to work commitments....It's good to have him home!
We had a relatively relaxing day yesterday, walking into Fratton to get some shopping in ASDA with my Aunty Trisha. Like me, Darrell was amazed at the variety on offer in this British supermarket, compared to the Spanish equivalent. Spanish shops in general are years behind those here, with a poor selection of produce on offer. Needless to say Darrell was in his element, just like I was when I first arrived in Portsmouth three months ago.
After a few pints in John Jacques, it was a gentle walk home and a relaxing few hours before dinner.
Darrell will be in the UK for a few weeks; it good to see him finally after spending the last few months finalising his job at Alicante Airport in Spain. So far he seems more than happy to be back home, but nothing is forever as they say. Darrell's stay will only be temporary and he will be back in Australia soon enough.
A friend recently asked if, if I wouldn't prefer a more conventional life, rather than all this insecurity; in their words 'living on the edge!' Well the answer to that is clear and may actually surprise you. I am quite happy with the way things are, since I have never known anything different. If my life was normal, I doubt very much whether It would have been so memorable and I wouldn't have the memories I have today!
