Charity

Image description
Sierra Mar Square really does pull out all the stops for charity. Since moving to Spain, I have seen many events and taken part in some myself, all to raise money for good causes; local charities, local concerns and local people.  This is where charity should begin and end.

Aunty Pam, is making Christmas decorations and selling them from 2€ each, for a local orphanage.  Pam works for Zest, my local Pub.  She has been a great source of help and advice for me and is also extremely proactive, in helping those who are in need.

You can pop along to Zest, Dick Turpin's and other venues in The Square to pick up these wonderful handmade creations. The photograph n the left is a decoration made from a cork, appropriate, considering they are being sold in locals bars and restaurants.  They look fantastic!  Pam has also made similar decorations in the style of Santa Claus and Christmas Puddings.

Pam, Zest and the other bars are also collecting toiletries for the children of the orphanage.  If you want to contribute, just bring your donations along to Zest, where they will be happy to take them from you.  You can also fill a shoebox, with gifts for children from the age of 12 upwards!

The concept of charity, is very different in Spain.  People don't tend to give to others, in the same way we do in Britain, which is of course a shame, as there are many people and animals that need the help of local people.  The Expat community, has been extremely active in generating large sums of money for many different purposes, but everyone of them deserving.

Local charities are the lifeblood of any community, Gran Alacant is no exception. Whether here on holiday or a local resident, if you are in Sierra Mar, please help all those trying to assist the orphanage this Christmas.  Christmas is indeed a time for giving, so please do your best to help!
