Jeremy Kyle!
I've been up since 7am this morning. Just finished my latest article for The GA Advertiser, sorted out the cats medication, cleaned the house and now I am about to start dinner. At 10.30 Spanish time, I do like to sit down and watch a bit of Jeremy Kyle. In a strange way, it does remind me of home and actually it is the only program that makes me feel better about my own life. The people on there are quite frankly, awful, the majority of them anyway!
I guess people are interested in others peoples lives, a bit like this blog really. Real life sells, as they say. I get emails all the time, up to a hundred a day, from people in similar circumstances, either shouting and screaming at me or thanking me for what I have written. Jeremy Kyle offers an insight into other lives, endurances that we would not normally be privy too. Personally I think it is important to understand the way other people live, the things they go through and the suffering they endure. Unless we understand other people, we really can't understand ourselves.
I'll explain what I mean:
I suppose you call me a regular Kyle watcher, and as someone who watches often you can sometimes see yourself in those on TV, in a good or bad way. There was one show I was watching, when I realised I had very similar symptoms to a person on stage. Needless to say, I went and got myself checked out and the rest is history. Jeremy Kyle is basically a modern day agony aunt column, in its full unadulterated glory. I even phoned Jeremy on one particular occasion. Those who know me closest, understand the reasons why. Mr Kyle answered the phone and we had a conversation. I decided not to progress any further, because of the legalities behind such a move.
Airing ones dirty laundry in public can be a problem. We all do it, through social media, even shouting or rowing with each other in public. Justifying our side of a story to a neutral audience, just like talking to a councilor in the same position, can work, I can see that. Jeremy offers a forum, for some of the worst people, you are ever likely to meet, but as with any story, when it turns out OK, we all enjoy a happy ending.
So a bit of Jeremy Kyle for me this morning, which doesn't hurt anyone. Now I do not have the constraints of the past, living in Spain, wanting to put the World to rights, I may, just may give the old man a ring again, you never know!
