Chatter!
Popped into Zest on Saturday, after a busy night at work . Wanted to have a few drinks after an extremely hot day. A pint or two of Mahou, at 2€ each is always welcome. I do miss my pints of Stella, from The Giddy Bridge, my old local, but Mahou comes a close second, and to be honest, my new local, Zest, is far better than the old bridge! Mahou is a lot stronger and judging on my head this morning, I am getting used to it, with less and less of a hangover each time!
Always good chatting with Paul and Chloe. The topic of conversation this evening was 'why can't people just be nice!' Chloe reads my blog, and is studying creative writing at University in Wales. Although young, like us, she has already come across bad people. Oh bad people exist everywhere, not just Britain.
The topic of others judging you for who you are, also came up. It is important in this world, that we accept everyone, no matter who they are, colour, sexuality, demographic and gender. Sadly with the rise of Nationalism across Europe, others using the brexit vote as an excuse for racist attacks and of course tensions in the Middle East, through ISIS, that isn't going to happen anytime soon!
More talk about politics and Britain's place in the world, after their vote to leave the EU. Most people I speak too are saddened by our vote decision. Now I am not talking about British Expats here, I am talking about the Spanish and other nationalities, who are genuinely upset that we are leaving, although everyone I spoke too, without exception, said they quite understand, why we did vote to leave!
It does seem to me that all across Europe, people are not happy with the union they are a part of. Most have had no choice in the matter and laws are made by unelected bureaucrats. I am very pro European, which is why I am living in Europe, but I am very anti European Union, which is why I voted for Brexit. The politicians do not listen to the voices of the people, who want and desire change.
In squares, like Sierra Mar, the local Expat community will continue to talk and remain anxious over the choice The UK has made. Looking at Britain, from over here in Spain, we see turmoil, a Government that has broken down and an Opposition that will in all probability split. These are testing times for my home Country. As a Spanish Resident, I really see my future in Spain. I do feel that people, cultures and all Nations should work together for a peaceful world, whether from Europe or not. As long as you are legal in Spain, you will have no problem staying. If you pay into the system, keep your nose clean and follow Spanish law, you will not have difficulties. Spain is not going to throw us all out!
Good and genuine people are becoming harder to find. As an individual, live your life well and treat others as you would expect them to treat you. You can never guarantee, avoiding the worst that life throws your way, but by having your own morals and set of ideals, you can at least hope you do your best to avoid those who quite simply, have no place in a civilized world!
